The second verse of "American Pie" opens with a Christian theme: Did you write the book of love. The phrase refers to the title of the 1958 song "The Book of Love" by The Monotones, that includes the lines:

Oh, who wrote the Book Of Love
I've got to know the answer
Was it someone from above?

Not sure about Zepplin, but as far as American Pie goes its a song that was out in the late 50's by the moontones "who wrote the book of love"
